Paleoecology

Extensive research has been done within the Hubbard Brook Valley on the paleoecology of historical ecosystems. Much of this work has focused on Mirror Lake, particularly its sediments, within the Valley. The majority of this research has been published in Likens, G. E. (Ed.) 1985. An Ecosystem Approach to Aquatic Ecology Mirror Lake and its Environment. Springer-Verlag, New York. 516 pp. Those interested in the results of this research are referred to this book, particularly the following chapters:

Chapter III, Part B.
         1. History of the Vegetation on the Mirror Lake Watershed (M. B. Davis)
         2. Catastrophic Disturbance and Regional Land Use (R. E. Bormann, F. H. Bormann

         3. Mirror Lake: Cultural History (G. E. Likens)
